Its always refreshing to see new developments in music. Particularly the development of brand new genres such as dubstep. Its amazing how all types of music have their influence on new music like electronic in one way or another. Cheers!

Yeah I definitely agree... And it is really the fault of the consumer. How can we get these distasteful people to stop listening to the crap that's put out there and start appreciating some real music? I am embarrassed for my generation when I hear some stuff on the radio these days...

Great post, really insightful and well constructed. Regarding the bit in the beginning where you mentioned the incredible growth of electronic music, its truly amazing how the ease of accessibility of production platforms (a simple laptop and DAW software) coupled with the level of growth in sharing across the internet triggered such an explosion in creativity! Were going to see musical progressions like never before...

Holla Holla to Susan for speaking out about the recent, dare I say "hate crimes", at SBC. I can't believe in 2011 this is sort of behavior is happening. I thought SBC was way past this sort of thing. Come on, Ladies! Those involved should be ashamed of themselves and, at the very least, sent to diversity counselling. In many states, these actions would be classified as "hate crimes" and the perpetrators prosecuted.

Nowhere should free speech be protected as much as it should be on a college campus. Universities are indeed a safe haven for intellectual exchange and raising your voice. Having said that, it is an editor's job to be responsible and omit rants that are overtly mean-spirited or clearly directed towards a certain person. The students have a right to say what they want, and the newspaper has the right to decide which ones to publish.

I fully support the end of the RANTS. I was against the Rants and Raves page two years ago when a student came to me with an example of a rant that was very personal. It seemed then to me that these kind of personal vendettas should not be aired on the page of a school newspaper without signatures...These were extremely hurtful remarks.
